SIOP® MEANS
EXCELLENCE
Today’s online and in-person classrooms are wonderfully diverse. By the year 2025, one in four K-12 students will be an English learner (EL). These students represent a kaleidoscope of backgrounds, languages, cultures, and experiences. With such rich diversity, all teachers need greater support to help ELs—along with all students—engage with the content and language of lessons.
Built around culturally responsive teaching and learning, the SIOP® (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) Model is the only empirically-validated sheltered instruction framework that meets this objective. The SIOP® Model advances academic language development alongside meaningful engagement with lesson content through any mode of lesson delivery. Developed by Jana Echevarría, Ph.D., MaryEllen Vogt, Ed.D., and Deborah J. Short, Ph.D., the SIOP® Model offers teachers a proven, time-tested framework for moving all learners toward academic excellence.
Savvas Learning Company is proud to be the sole organization partnering with SIOP® authors to offer educators SIOP® Professional Learning that reflects fidelity to the SIOP® Model, along with attention to best practices to engage adult learners.

THE SIOP® MODEL IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK. Authors Jana Echevarría, Ph.D., Deborah J. Short, Ph.D., and MaryEllen Vogt, Ed.D. share how the SIOP® Model helps teachers integrate language objectives into content instruction.
More than ever, students need a learning environment that feels safe, supported, and where they can show their learning in many different ways. The SIOP® Model ties directly to social emotional learning competencies of Self-Management and Self-Awareness, building on students’ language and cultural backgrounds.
