Principles of Applied Engineering invites students to explore the many fields of engineering through scenarios and group projects that engage them in the problem-solving process. Students discover the different types of engineering and engineering-related disciplines, history, career paths, positions, and typical skills and activities necessary for success in engineering careers.
Engage students with active, hands-on learning
An introduction before Chapter One—A Scenario in the Future—places students in the role of an engineer working in a team to solve a problem in the community.
In Chapter One, an engaging opening scenario and design task introduce critical problem-solving concepts and hands-on activities. Subsequent chapters help students explore and interact with engineering and STEM disciplines, professional concepts, and various fields of engineering, including how different types of technologies are used. A final chapter brings it all together through a continuation of the opening scenario and a final hands-on design task to help students demonstrate their learning and make informed career decisions.
