Discover how to make this happen with ease in your classroom and have some fun while we are at it.
Creating Richer Math Conversations
Friday, October 27 | 8:00 a.m. | Room 143C | Dr. Marian Small, author of Experience Math
We know students learn through more conversation. Conversations build mathematical reasoning skills, so that students don't simply know how to do math, but also how to communicate mathematically with their teachers and peers. But how do you facilitate good conversations? In this workshop, we will discuss replicable strategies to help facilitate meaningful math conversations in your classroom as soon as your next class period.
Making Gains with a High-Quality, Equitable Design for Math Instruction
Sunday, October 29 | 8:15 a.m. | Room 8 | Leanne Daughtry, Johnston County School District, and Linda Cordes, Savvas
In this session, learn how a North Carolina school district became the only district in its state to show a significant decrease in mathematics underperformance. Through strategic decision making, strong leadership, and collaboration with the school community, it developed a new design for instruction that ensures each student receives equitable access to high-quality resources and that each of its teachers feels empowered to deliver effective, rigorous instruction through a comprehensive plan for professional development.
