Cross-platform, Cross-Curriculum, and Cross-Context Collaboration
Virus shutdowns and the subsequent forced entry by many teachers into remote teaching and learning revealed the void between teacher experiences, curricular materials, and remote learning platforms/approaches. In this void, an unprecedented nexus occurred as a collaboration between university instructional design faculty, curriculum company consultants, and school district ELA and tech staff. This session will explore the development and results of a collaboration between Savvas myPerspectives™ ELA curriculum; the ThinkCERCA™ Cross-Curricular writing platform; the University of Cincinnati School of Education, Instructional Design and Technology; and the Cincinnati Public Schools.

During our lit blocks, we plan for students to learn in three settings: Whole class, small group, and independent. In this workshop, we will explore activities to foster literacy learning in these three settings.
Novels, Remotely
While English teachers across the country come-up with brilliant strategies for remote learning, many still seek to develop approaches for reading and managing work with longer texts and novels. This session will provide a high-level model to approach longer texts and novels in the remote ELA classroom. Then - by drawing on the presenter's years of experience teaching ELA and working with ELA teachers as well as the work of respected writers and practitioners - the session will dive into some particular strategies proven to be effective. Attendees will leave with a broader understanding of approaching longer texts and novels and some specific tools they can implement immediately.
