Looking Inside the Minds of Thrill Seekers

February 18, 2021 10:30 AM EST - February 18, 2021 11:00 AM EST

They jump out of planes, climb skyscrapers, and will eat anything prompting others to ask 'what's wrong' with them. These are the thrill-seekers. They may appear to be adrenaline junkies, but are they? Dr. Carter will describe the world of the high sensation-seeking personality, exploring the psychology and neuroscience behind this fascinating personality trait. He’ll also discuss the many aspects of his career as a clinical psychologist from working with clients, to teaching, writing, and being on television, radio, and podcasts.

Speaker: Dr. Ken Carter

Dr. Kenneth Carter is a Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology at Oxford College of Emory University. He has published in both academic and lay publications, translating psychology research into engaging everyday language. His articles have been published in magazines such as Psychology Today and Women’s Health, and he has appeared on news programs such as NPR’s: ShortWave and NBC’s Today show. The psychology of thrill-seeking is the current focus of Dr. Carter’s research.
